Hey on a 2003 lc I have the black little crossmember that holds the wheel when I crank the cable to tighten it back to the truck. Do I need a lock or is that just a security thing?

It's a security thing. Some 100's came with a lock from the factory (or port). A lot of mudders remove them (it looks sorta like a OEM wheel lock but smaller and the key is normally already connected the jack tools).
