Hi all! I have a 1999 100 and have run into a problem that even my local dealer (Toyota of Rockwall) cannot solve. I had a screw in a tire that I bought from the dealer (long story but got a good deal). The tire was covered under the complimentary warranty (which ended up not being a warranty at all after "proration"... yet another story entirely) but had to be ordered. SO, I asked that the dealer put the spare on the ground while we waited. After three hours drinking fake cappuccinos from some fancy schmancy coffee machine and eating fresh baked cookies to the point of diminishing returns in the dealer lobby, the tech came out and asked if I knew where the spare key was hiding. Apparently, they tore the back apart looking only to find that the little star shaped "key" that fits on the end of the three piece rod used to lower the tire is missing. I have honestly never needed it and knew nothing about it. They tried several sources and informed me that they could not find one, get one or even special order one. So they put me in a loaner for the day, slapped me on the back and said good luck.

Does anyone know the part number or source for that the little star shaped "key" that fits on the end of the three piece rod used to lower the tire? I am a little concerned about getting the tire down in the event of a problem on the road.

Any help is appreciated!

My lx was also missing this odd tool. I had to go to the dealer where they could match the key with a master and the special order the part from a warehouse in Buffalo. To raise/lower the spare, a Lexus dealer, if jot Toyota, should be able to help.

^Dealers definitely won't do this.

I ran into the keyed spare tire lock on another vehicle. Had to get an extractor socket and remember remove it.

Is the spare lock not the same as the wheel lock? If it is, Lexus dealer should be able to match.

i've got 4 wheel locks and a key, free for the cost of shipping if op or anyone else wants a free, future hassle...

Thanks guys... sorry for not searching the forum... I hate tapatalk for that reason.

side note: Screw was in the sidewall/shoulder

Spare lock is completely different than wheel locks.

Has ANYONE with a Land Cruiser that has no lock, just the ubiquitous slotted mechanism ever had a spare tire stolen? That'd be the first thing to go on an LX if/when I get one, and just replace with the normal one.

I've never had a spare stolen. If I parked or lived in a bad area I might get a lock. It's too much of a hinderance to have a spare lock in my opinion (tire shop losing key, me losing key, forgot where key is, etc.) I ran into this recently and got stuck with a bad flat in the middle of nowhere and couldn't get the spare down (not my truck). Luckily enough people helped me keep it aired up until I could get to a town. I keep an air compressor and a plug kit in my personal vehicles, just in case I have two flats and can't drive or get towed easily.

You need to lower the tailgate to lower the spare tire. How would someone steal your tire unless they have already broken in to your truck? And even then, they would need another 100 to run the wheel on. Not likely.
