Been lurking on this board for a while and have picked up *tons* of useful info. Thanks to *ALL* !!!
My turn to reciprocate.
Was recently driving cross country and stopped at a fillup station. I habitually kick my spare tire to ensure tightness. This time it was loose. Yikes !
Spare tire was swinging to and fro underneath. Pulled out my four-independent-piece-now-one-welded-piece tire crank tool from under the rear seat and proceeded to attempt to crank up the rear tire. Bummer, no go. Rear tire went more southward. Tried again, spare tire now on ground. Took of the spare, threw it in the back and wrap tied the chain to the hanger.
Upon arriving at my destination, investigated and it appeared the e-clip which is on the opposite sided of the excentric bolt we crank to raise and lower the spare tire took a permanent vacation. Toyota dealer wanted $125 for crank unit. Not able to just buy the clip. Local trip to the auto store and purchase a 1/2 inch e-clip for 0.29 cents. Back at the ranch, reasembled the excentric bolt into the carrier, snaped on the e-clip, works like a champ.
Yup, I carry a spare e-clip now.
Cheers,
Cahil
