I debated putting this in hardcore:flipoff2:

I reccomend you excercise and lubricate your spare tire crank doohicky frequently. Particularly if you live where there is salt use:crybaby:

else you may have to drive around for a while with a lumber/webbing spare tire rack....I'm soon to replace it is with a mud sourced used replacement (thanks Simon!)....of course the alternative is a slightly more costly rear bumper repalcement (sorry Chrsito et al. - perhaps when I sell my house....you have no idea how close I was to buying a new rear bumper.....

anyhow...lube/wash/excercise wahtever - just don't let these little sundry mechanical doodads go to heck like I did.....PS webbing/lumber worked great for a several monthes.

yes and IH8salt...You don't know what you're missing.....

I took a look at mine a few weeks ago and it was a mess. I ended up wire brushing the rust off, spraying it with a "rust reformer-like" spray then priming and painting it.

Having done that, I'm still planning to mount the spare in a better location soon. (Possibly on a new rear bumper when I find the funds.)
