I am slowly compiling a parts bag and wanted to compile a list of some spare bolts, nuts, and screws to carry. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Buy a selection of what you'd need for the front end plus extra studs etc for the rear axle. You shouldn't need much more than that. If you try to go non-oem just keep in mind that Japanese metric sized heads will likely differ from the crap you'd get from most supply houses etc.

Ujoint, brake line, piece of fuel line, hose clamps, leaf spring shacle repair, radiator hoses, fan belts, piece of 10 ga wire, voltmeter, several flashlights. In my case Metric and Standard tools, box wrenches, sockets etc. Extra fluids, fuel, brake, motor oil, trans, WD40, starter etc. Extra valve stems and valves. Assorted 10 & 12 MM nuts and bolts, Ty raps, bailing wire, 200 mile tape. Tow rope for Jeeps, shovel for snow, extra shackles and turnbuckles, safety glasses. Two emergency cigarettes, one pint of Johnny Walker Black in case of snakes. Survival food and water. I am sure there is more. The moral being go prepared, tell someone where you are going, and go with another vehicle.

Wow, great list and great advice but everyone knows to carry RUM not JWB for snakes! Sheeeeeeeeeesh! Whatwereyathinkin? :D

Still, the question was more about nuts and bolts specifically, at least as I read it, so one thing I would add to an appropriate amount of 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16mm nuts and bolts ( have yet to find an 11 mm IIRC on the cruiser?) I would ALSO throw in four to eight of the M10 x 1.0 x 14mm fine pitch pre coated bolts for the driveshaft to TC flanges. I recently found out how hard it is to find those things through typical sources - I found plenty of M10 x1.0's but the nuts and bolt heads were like 18mm not the 14mm that the factory uses there. What a PITA it would be to strip those nuts on the trail and nut have replacements! HTH.

Uh, yeah, I’d take some of what he had, but he was only asking which bolts.

Gringo – if you want a full listing of spare parts – search for trail spares. There was a pretty complete list a while back. I think Hltpper started it for his trip into the bowels of the baha.

You guys are great--I really appreciate all of the replies. I already have the spare single malt for emergency situations :) I was just asking about the bolts but it is good to see the "big" list again--there is always something new to throw in. Thanks again

Jason
