Just picked up a used '22 GX -wanted to ask fellow forum members for any Southern California dealership service feedback -

The truck has just under 16k miles, but since I have no idea how previous owners treated it, would like to swap out front/rear diff, TC fluids while not encountering warranty issues if I had it done at my usual shop -

Any dealerships within the LA/OC area would be awesome, especially those who have had their GX worked on without any issues thereafter.

Thanks to all for any feedback you provide.

I got my 2018 CPO from Keyes in Van Nuys. It came with two years of complimentary service that I dutifully consumed, but I was relieved when it finally ran out. They'd always print out an invoice, probably to make me feel grateful for their generosity, but each time I saw $250 for an oil change or $300 for a battery it gave me the exact opposite reaction (even if I didn't end up paying anything). It also took at least 4 hours each time I dropped it off. My last visit quoted me over $2k for brake pads and resurfacing rotors and that was enough for me. I did it myself with OEM parts for about $200 and an hour of labor.

At 16k, I'd probably leave the OEM fluids alone. The odds are that any hard use or abuse during that time would also present itself in the bodywork or undercarriage. If it's reasonably clean underneath, I'd assume the fluids are as well. If you insist on all new fluids, then most of those can be swapped in a matter of minutes in a garage. I ended up getting all those fluids swapped at around 65000mi by my local independent Lexus specialist in Canoga Park. He's worked on quite a few of my cars over the years, and a few of my friends' as well. Keyes never did me wrong but the quoted cost and time spent were always a shock to me. Hit up Carlo at Servicelex if you're in the northwest part of town and want to explore your options.

I'm in San Clemente and we have an awesome certified mechanic that we've used for the past 35 years.
Anytime we purchased anything, we'd bring it to him to do a once over and he'd tell us the good, bad and if there's any ugly.
He's fair and honest. He'll never say, "You have to have NEW brakes NOW or you'll kill yourself!" or something like that. What he will do is let you know when something is showing wear and give you an idea of when you need to replace it or whatever. This way you not hit with a huge unexpected bill. He WILL NOT try to get you into the shop on some trumped up service that you may or may not need.
Fair prices, not the cheapest, but absolutely not dealership prices either.
Since you live in Huntington Beach, I used to live there also, around downtown and surfed everyday the pier, so San Clemente is only about a 35 minute drive.
Give them a call.

One other thing to consider, since you mention already having a preferred mechanic. Nobody wants unnecessary legal trouble, but the Moss-Magnuson Warranty Act will protect you in the event of claims made after outsourcing regular maintenance to independent shops. As long as the parts used meet specs, and the workers do not engage in any negligence, your warranty will persist after independent shops perform work. This is to protect consumers against denied claims like, "yeah your engine imploded after 20k miles, but you used Mobil1 so that's on you " Aftermarket performance parts will give their lawyers something to grab onto, but they still can't blame oil changes for chassis failures or vice versa. If you lift your rig, Lexus won't cover any suspension issues, but they can't blame that for engine failure. Etc.

Right to repair is a critical issue.

Thanks to you both for the feedback. I will leave the fluids alone for now and just monitor. There is what's left over of the powertrain warranty, lets hope we dont ever need it, and if we ever do need it - whatever it is goes within that time/mile period.

I will bet you that fluid is still clean the day they put it in, save the money for some upgrades or future services. 16k miles is nothing all my vehicles except for my wife's ES350 have over 300k miles and I bought them at 200k with very little maintenance. Congrats on your new ride, your owners manual will tell you at what intervals you need to change your fluids.
