Hello Mudmates,

My 98 LX has developed a little problem in the drivetrain. I am sure it is associated with worn out bushings somewhere as the rubber is 17 years old and 172k miles. I am looking for some feedback on where to start. When you come to a stop and hold the brake until you get to a complete stop and then let off it makes a little bump noise and you can feel the shifter move forward at the same time. this does not happen if you let go of the brake just before coming to a complete stop and then apply the brake to complete the stop. i have replaced the bushing on the front diff support arm as that one was noticable worn/torn and it has helped get rid of 65% of the problem but i am looking for additional culprits to i/d. I am seriously considering selling my LX as my needs have changed and want to make it right for the next owner. I do know that all the sway arm bushings need to be replaced but doubt this is related to this drive train bump.

Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated

TIA TLC Dan on spokane

After you confirm lube... and it wears off in a week... Start with Rear Control Arms. Those will be most bang for buck thunk wise (not money wise). Sway Bar Bushing are also a good change out. I have a list of those parts on my web site somewhere.

Lube and sway bar bushings greatly reduced the thunk on my LC. I greased mine every weekend for 4-5 weeks in a row. I could probably pump in more grease at one time, but I was not sure how much it will need, and if too much grease would be a bad thing or not.

Rear Control Arms is next on my list, but I need a break from spending $$.

I lubed the driveshaft and it helped. I will do it again and see how much more help i can get.
