i have an 03 and a buddy and I have been talking about upgrading our systems as well and he came across this on diymobileaudio.com
2007 Toyota Land Cruiser - DIYMA.com
I wish they had of posted how it sounds compared to the stock system it replaced.
There are hacks for most of the gripes you have. Look up soundman or soundmanaudio on youtube. he shows you how to do it.I have an AVIC double din also. I don't remember the exact model number, but its one of the touch screen nav units.
I absolutely hate the lack of a volume nob, and you have to do some crazy voodoo dance and the stars have to align just right for pandora to work correctly on it. I also hate the fact that my passenger can't input a new address or do pretty much anything while the vehicle is in motion due to an e-brake AND speed sensor. Finally I hate that I have to "ok" through at least three menus after inputing my address before it will start navigating.
Other than those gripes I like having a hands free blue tooth unit, ON road GPS (I use my Garmin GPSmap62st for off road), and iphone/ipod interface. I also like that I can make an exact color match of the lit buttons to the rest of the console lights, but for what I paid, I expected much much more. I wish apple would start making head units =(

Did you ever figure out how to set up the auto dim with the LC, I was told by pioneer that given the way the wiring is on our trucks it is impossible to make it function the way it was intended. I thought about just hooking up a two-way switch from the orange wire to the red wire.
How did you change the splash screen? That's pretty cool. Looks more OEM.
I have no doubt of that either but I would like a review of the improvements. I think the stock systems on the 100 are a weak point of the vehicle and should have been better.I can tell without hesitation it sounds better - without even hearing it. The stock "sub" is nothing of the sort. The 8 they put in that location with sufficient power would probably reproduces down to 35hz. They built that baffle pretty sturdy.

I can't answer those questions. I do not have my double Din Poneer unit yet.Rob/BBQ,
Gonna give the bypass a shot today. Didn't realize it was as easy as changing a pin position. If I've already got the unit installed the way it is supposed to be (speed sensor, P-brake lead) do I need to disconnect the wire going from the harness to the speed sensor wire or can I leave it?
The main issue I have with pandora is, the phone needs to have pandora open and be playing before you plug it in to the adapter in order for anything to show up on the HU screen. It's not a huge deal I guess as it does work every time I do it this way, but I had to figure that out on my own. You would think you could just plug the phone in and open pandora from there and everything would be peachy.
Were either of you able to set up the auto dim feature by connecting the orange wire to your low beam circuit?

Do the soundman Pin 2 mod on your harness and ground that wire. The light green wire that goes to your Parking brake, disco that from the Pbrake and ground that. You have completed the bypass. DO NOT change your Speed Pulse or Reverse wires.
True I activate pandora link prior to connection.
Auto Dim? There is an illumination wire on the Nav Harness (orange/white) that I connected to the illumination wire in the dash (green / white - I think) that changes the Nav from day to night mode, dimming the display if so set. Is that what you mean?
Yes that is exactly what I mean. Where is the harness located? Crutchfield told me it would be impossible to utilize due to the entire illum circuit being on a dimmer, and therefore variable voltage.
I was able to complete the bypass this afternoon. That pin was insanely difficult to get out of the harness and when I went to re-insert it the pin broke in half. Fortunately I was able to find some female D SUB connectors at Fry's electronics, just small enough to fit.
Aaaaand just as soon as I got the control panel face back onbroke my key
It's been a rough day for the LC.
One of the reasons I went for a slightly smaller screen in the Kenwood unit was to get a volume knob that I could adjust easily......I absolutely hate the lack of a volume knob...
