Hey guys. Today after work I started my 60 and had a strange thing happen. Here's the breakdown:

1. Pumped accelerator once.
2. Pulled choke.
3. Turned ignition...
Turned over, died
Right at the last gasp, I heard a very quick "FFFFFT" kind of noise
(sounded like air escaping from somewhere, Smelled a funny smell)
4. Turned her over again, started sluggishly and a poof of black smoke shot out the
tailpipe.

After that she was fine and ran as normal.
This is the second time it has happened... the first was about two days ago.

Any ideas? Thanks as usual!

black smoke usally means its running rich.. i pull the choke half way pump twice and then hold the gas in slighty..best way i found it to start up.

Owners manual says to pull the choke and leave the gas pedal alone, unless starting a warm engine, then you pump once, the put it on the floor and hold it while starting.

I suspect what you heard and smelled the 1st time was coming from the distributor cap.....yep the cap is vented into the cab, mine blew a puff of funny smelling smoke in the cab last year, that is nothing to worry about. Now I did know why the dizzy would do it.........but i forgot,

the black smoke just means the carb had too much fuel in it when you restarted it, prolly from pumping the pedal.

i get the same thing on mine, usually when its a cold start. it kinda smells like a burnt match. so this is nothing to worry about?

Well, this is good news. Thanks much, everyone. I will try to remember not to pump the pedal when using the choke.

Slofj... yep, that's the smell.

trying to think, the dizzy cap is vented to the cab and the other hose goes to the snog crap, so it prolly gets some unburnt gasses(or something) and when you fire it up........it lights up the gas(or whatever)

1st time(and only time) mine did it I thought I fried some wires......but nope :)
