So I am trying to get my windows installed and have been playing email tag with a mud member who has a lv template. but we can't quite get ont he same page so I call up SOR to see if they can sell me a template traced from there lv replacement windshield.
when I explain what I am looking for the sales rep tells me "in my 10 years of working here no one has ever asked for that". then tells me to hold while he talks to management. thenhe comes back 10 minutes later and tells me no management won't do it. they are to busy to do something like that. how freakin hard is it o trace a windsheild on a piece of packing paper thats all I asked for. the guy gave me some excuse that they are in the middle of there huge sale so I asked well after the sale is over and you have some time is there any chance that someone could do this. he sas no we have better things to do. I know there are some things you can only get there but I will do my best not to use that vender anymore.
so does anyone have any other ideas for a template for the windsheild I really would like to get the glass in my lv. I can cut some card board to rough shape and then do a trace of the opening I supose . but then how much back from that trace line should I have them cut?

in truth I don't need it right away, i was just getting frustrated and had to vent. I started my window portion of the project in early October and seem to be treading water for awhile.
your stock wind sheild is goig to be too big size wise for the SOR gaskets. that is why they sell a new wind sheild glass. to sum up my above post and why I am pissed I bought there gasket but they won't sell me a template to cut glass to fit in thre gasket :(
anyway a glass guy can take your windsheild and the new gasket and make a smaller wind shiled from it to fit in the SOR gasket. the more I talk this out the more I am leaning toward doing a tracing of the opening of my wind shield and then minusing the width of the gasket maybe getting al ittle direction from my window guy. since my truck is not mobile I just don't want to pay the window guy to come out 3 times instead of just once.
thanks though
Jason

I'll be sure to order a gasket AND the template at the SAME time. If they want to sell a gasket then they'll sell or include a template!!

Jason, mine is out and stored in the loft of my shop. I should be able to trace it tomorrow, if my back is cooperating, and shoot it to you. Send me a PM with your mailing address an you will have it in a couple of days. My rig is a 1966 if that matters?

cruiser_guy I wish you better luck and customer service than I got.

Mark thanks but I think my plan of attack is to get some card board and trace the area inside the edges of the lip then take that and the gasket to my glass guy he should be able to work from that in that he already made the rear hatch window out of new saftey glass in that ithe window had to be smaller to use the new gasket. so I am confident if I can just get him something to start with it does have to be perfect that he can go from there.

my next plan is since there are a few others who are going to be in the same boat shortly is to have my glass guy trace a template on some plain white paper and I have a large format scanner at work we use for scanning posters and blue prints and things then I can pdf it and hopefully putt it up on treeroots site so that all you would have to do is download it and take it to your local kinkos or who ever has a large format printer and print your own.

That would get you some good "Cruiser karma"!

I have a 66 Lv windshield that has been cut down to the specs that SOR requires. It is cracked but would make a good template. I used my original glass and my glass man found that the rubber from some 50's vintage vehicle fit better than SORs. I gave SOR my rear liftgate window glass that had been cut down about a year ago. I doubt if they have a windshield in their inventory to make a template
from.

Care to share what vehicle the gasket is from?

update I went to the glass shop yesterday to drop off my template and my side windows to get the 3 made into windows that will fit the $OR gaskets. I should have them back in the next day or so. so my plan is o trace both the front windsheild and the side ones.
then its just a matter of scanning them and pdfing them. which might be after the holidays in that our wide format scanner is acting up figures. but I will get them scanned and on treeroots site.
