I'm considering changing out all my brake lines and have been looking at SOR's kit for 255 bucks. I read Coolerman's thread on making his own and really like the idea of turning out my own but wanted to weigh the cost of buying a good flare kit and the correct fittings as opposed to just lying out the cash for SOR's kit that is already done.

Anyone else have experience making thier own lines? Where did you get the correct fittings? The tubing? What flare tool kit and bender did you buy? Thanks-

I've used my old fittings and made my own. I have a Craftsman Flaring tool. (If a die brakes they replace the whole kit.) That S.O.R. kit is nice and will save alot of time but learning to flare your own lines will come in handy. On my 9/69 (70), it has the older 9mm fittings, I pretty much had to make my own lines. I've made several for my others so learning came in handy. If I had to replace all my lines then that Spector Kit would be the ticket.

You can buy lengths of 3/16 brake lines pre-flared with 10mm fittings in several different lengths and then bend by hand.
Its what I did, and much cheaper (less than half).

Check NAPA, AutoZone, Advance Auto etc.

Use care when bending them, I used the NAPA hard lines as well. I would bend them around a hard object, a spray paint can worked pretty well. Also be sure to use the proper double flaring tool, if you need to make up your own flares.

Good advice, I will stop in napa and see what they got. I do like the idea of making my own and I get to buy another tool!

Used the SOR kit on my 61. (9mm) Changed 2 of the fittings to 10mm for the dual master cylinder that I upgraded to. Worked out great. I think they also sell fittings individually.
