Sometimes I can remove my key in "D" (1 Viewer)

I know it's not supposed to allow me to do this, but sometimes it does...
While the transmission is still in "D", I can turn the key (killing the engine) and REMOVE the key from the ignition. The odd thing is that this isn't allowable in any other gear (i.e. Reverse, 2nd, Low); and if I'm not completely in Park, I can't remove the key (which I would consider normal).

It doesn't let me do it all the time and I don't do this intentionally. Sometimes when I'm messing around right after stopping to park...grabbing stuff to take with me...forget to put it in Park. I don't usually realize it until I get back in and try to start her up (no startie in Park).

Any thoughts, ideas, comments?

DOH!! I checked to see if the link worked, and it did, but that was at work!! ANyway it was from the service manual, having you ohm out the ignition interlock switch and the location of where it is. I'll have to wait til tomorrow to showwhat pins to check. Sorry
