I've "politely" corrected people in uwharrie a few times in the past.... didn't work out that well, but the more people know the better it will be in the long run.
 
I have corrected people out in the woods as well. The sad thing is that all this information is something I was raised with and was considered "normal" in my household as well as my buddies. I grew up going camping, back packing, hiking and riding dirt bikes and then 4x4s. You always packed out what you packed in, Picking up trash left by others was something we always did. It was not just trash either, I was taught to respect nature and to conduct myself as not to do damage. Erosion was a big issue living in the foothills of the Pocono mountains. Tearing up public or private land was verboten.

What truly amazed me was when I moved to the Keys and found trash on the bottom everywhere. Turns out it was more the locals throwing trash overboard than the tourists. Weird.
