I recently got myself a 2000 Lexus 470 (see my previous threads). Great truck, and I took it straight on vacation. Since my trip to Corsica, the car has occasionally started beeping and the traction control light comes on. Sometimes the ABS also kicks in, which can be quite dangerous on winding roads with heavy traffic around me. My wife and kids found it a bit nerve-wracking too — and I can’t spend the whole holiday driving at 25 mph (because below that speed it doesn’t happen).

So, I pulled the 50A ABS fuse, which stops the ABS from engaging. I’m only driving on dry roads and taking it easy, so it’s manageable. However, now the steering has more play in the center (I can turn it about 10–15 degrees either way without actually steering). On top of that, I have to keep the steering wheel about 30 degrees to the left in order to drive straight.

The beeping is still there, but only if I turn more than about 25 degrees to the right. Since I’m in an area where not many people are familiar with this kind of vehicle, I was wondering if any of you might have an idea what could be causing this and more importantly, how I can fix or at least reduce the steering issue (crooked wheel and excessive play).

Also, is there a way to disable the beeping? That alone would make driving much more pleasant. Right now, I sometimes turn on the CDF just to keep my kids from waking up because of the constant beeping.

Hope to get your expertise on this! Thanks in advance!

I had the car scanned by AAA and it shows the following fault codes:

C0278
C1223
C1253
C1340
Anyone have any idea what this could be?

Thanks!
