... new front shock mounts are done. needed room for bypass shocks
that end up being 19.5" compressed, not a problem on the PS but on
the DS space is real tight with the brake master cylinder. kevin told me
about the F250 shock mounts that the 40 and 60 guys use so i picked
some up and started looking at options. i decided to use as much of
the stock tower as possible and "graft" the ford tower onto it for the
extra height...

the stock tower, very beefy...

the tower trimmed to the top of the rear gusset...

i cut out the angle portion of the ford tower leaving
the sides and fit it into the stock tower...

welded all the seams up...

primed and painted up ready to go...

lower shock mounts will stay in the stock locations...

so with the shock mounts and all the PM done it's time to start putting
the front end back together. next comes the front nerf bar and the cage.

Looks like one of those "wish I had a smaller head" welding jobs. Especially on the drivers side.

Nice, keep the pics coming..

man if that ain't the truth! i was about to pull the intake off just to get a better angle....

do these shock towers make me look fat.... :frown:

...ok, ok, probably added 10lbs. those ford towers are stout.

not had a lot of time and money to throw at the project the past few
months. did finally get shocks mounted up front - fox 2.5 3 tube bypass
shocks that will get me 11" of wheel travel.

been collecting parts from the rdc classifieds and that's helped save some
bucks. found a brand new 32 gal. fuel cell for next to nothing and got that
mounted out back. got a pair of prp seats still wrapped in plastic and a
brand new 540C gps from another "build gone bust" so parts are coming
together slowly...

...next big push is getting the cage built,no biggie right? :bang:

Wow, got any pics of the rig from the outside? I've never seen an 80 without a roof...(looks chppped in the last pic?)

Looks great, my guess is those towers are going to need some additional bracing, tying them into the cage? With that much travel, would recommend capturing the springs, would suck to have them leave the rig on a jump!:hillbilly:

i'll definitely run limit straps to protect the shocks and keep the springs in place.
bracing the shocks is a challenge with the height of the intake manifold and the
brake booster im having trouble figuring that one out...

Run a cross gusset to the top of the spring perch and either tying it into your cage, or creating a removable tube brace/stiffener that runs from the top of each mount across the top of the engine, but definitely support those mounts (which I'm sure you will do). Great build
