I think a big part of it that a lot of you who don't mind high miles aren't thinking about is the resale down the road when you get rid of it. If you start off with a rig with 150k+ miles then use it for several years off roading and commuting, your residual when you go to sell will be a lot lower than if you started out with 30,40,50k fewer miles. I drive about 10k miles per year, so at this rate in 3 more years when I go to sell mine, I'll be just approaching 150k which should be FAR easier to sell and MUCH more appealing than a rig with 250k miles on it. For those who intend to keep their trucks forever and pass them down to kids or whatever that argument is irrelevant, but I think most here intend to sell at some point down the road where resale value will become an important factor to consider.

:meh: Just like real estate, the profit is made on the buy, not the sell...

Real estate also (theoretically) shouldn't depreciate like a truck. You are all but guaranteed that any car you buy with few exceptions will definitely depreciate whereas that is not the case with real estate. Yes some real estate ends up losing market value over time but it's not the same as a vehicle which basically depreciates every time you put in the key and drive down the road.

The other upside to buying a truck with lower miles, regardless of price, is again theoretically less usage and wear and tear than one with higher miles. There are as many allegories and opinions as there are people out there, and then some, so it's best for everyone on their own to decide what is important to them and what they can afford. For me it was extremely easy to decide: 98-99 with a locker, lowest miles I could find, clean inside and out, good maintenance history, within my budget. For some it might be: 5 speed, vvti, color must be black, etc. etc. :meh:

Update. Just got back from the test drive and look over. Long story short. No real records, 90k service not done. Was fairly clean and straight, no accidents. solid 7 or 8 out of 10. If I were trading it in, the dealer would tell me that it was between maybe "good" not excellent. Has some rust underneath as would be expected in north east TN. A small tranny leak. 100% original down to the continental tires. 70 yr old lady one owner that purchased it new. Worth in my opinion around 10.5k or 11k. Offered her 11 but she would not budge off her price. I told her 12k was excellent cond kbb price but she wanted her price. We parted ways and so the hunt continues. I would easily paid the 14k if in fact she had all records and it was in fact excellent. Thanks again for all the help. Ill keep looking.
