Solution to Nav gremlins? Is it worth the work to delete the NAV in my '04 LX 470? (1 Viewer)

Hey all,
I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. I recently bought a 2004 LX470, and the nav/hvac system is filled with gremlins. When you first start it, the screen doesn't generally work and when you press the MAP button, it says "The external system is not connected." If you press the climate button, you get "Check the connection of the air conditioner."
The first thing I'm going to do is take it out of the dash and clean & check the connections. Maybe over the last 20+ years something became loose. I do not have any mods to it (that I can see anyways), no bluetooth, nothing deleted.
My question for the group, if I end up having to replace it. Is the hassle of changing the wiring and sourcing the parts (if I even can) and changing everything over to the non-nav version worth it, or should I just get another nav system off a parted out vehicle? Would the parted out piece just be a temp fix since I assume all of these will die eventually? My time is worth some amount of money, is there a place that does this conversion? Did I miss a thread where someone does all the work and then sells the completed kit for an obscene amount (would be worth it...)? Thanks all!

Replace all your fuses first. I had the same problem, replacing fuses solved it. If that doesn't work then replacing the head unit may help. Sourcing parts for a nav delete is expensive/difficult and time consuming as parts are discontinued. As far as the jerryb harness, with time/dedication/money, you can make your own; he posted all the documentation. I'm making a few of them and may give a few away with time if they work, but don't hold your breath.

I put together that it was expensive and very time consuming, that's why I'm thinking if I cant get what's there to work, I'll just replace it with an OEM one from ebay. Thanks for the advice on the fuses! I'll look at that today.

For anyone, also I realized that the subwoofer doesn't seem to be working, but the other speakers do. Is it possible the Amp is going bad? What are the symptoms of that? Also, I checked the fuses and they all seem good. I'm going to replace them anyways just in case.

You can also check "Original Car Audio". Not sure of the web site, might be cd4car.com. You can purchase one of their refurbished units and send yours in for core credit and get a 6 month warranty on their unit. I believe for about $400 they will repair yours and provide the same warranty.
