Is the mixture screw cap still in place?

Unfortunately no. Just looking to see if the mixture cap is in place, that covers the mixture screw. You almost had it but the picture needs to be taken from a little higher up and angled downward. The screw is where the 4 vacuum lines are in the image, specifically right behind the two with yellow vac caps.

How was it running before it was removed?

Hi Upperblack,

To be honest, I don't know. The engine was bought from a Toyota mechanic who had it in storage for about 8 years. He said that back in 2010 during the "cash for clunkers" thing where te government was buying what they considered gas hogs, a customer came in with a very clean 1986 FJ60. The mechanic did not have the heart to destroy the entire vehicle as were the guidelines, so he kept the engine. Attached below is how it looked 2 months ago when I got it from his storage locker .
