Looking at the picture I'll have to call B/S. It would take a heck of a lot more solar cells that shown in the picture to do anything close to the claims - though they mention a built in battery...

The other problem is for the small cells they have to work the whole thing needs to be in the sun - which of course heats the heck out of the cooler compartment.

Anyhow, from plenty of experience running solar panels and an Engel in the real world I'd call that product concept a fail.

You obviously did not watch the video about the product. :clap: It had GREAT technical depth, including saws, some welding, mulitmeters, a guy pushing a cart, some drab weather and even someone HAND soldering a pcb (maybe that explains the $1200 msrp). How could this NOT be a great product? And, during the drab weather scene, they pitch the panel at an angle just like you preach!! But weird how the panel is actually mounted to the top of the lid and not moveable....hmmm...must be special engineering tricks I just don't get being a dumb consumer. :p:p

Yeah, never watched the video, and just wasted about a minute of my life clicking through various scenes of it. Now I have even less good things to say about it :)

Geez what's wrong with a couple small 12v7ah AGM batteries and a $150 100W Renogy solar panel?
 
I actually have been in contact with them on this fridge. They said they have a detailed video coming out in 2 weeks about it. I pressed for more specs and no response. Seems to me they are just trying a crowd sourcing scam...

I don't believe there is a big market for this fridge. It would be better/practical to add a solar system to your vehicle and you can run all sorts of stuff. Or a complete stand alone solar system would be practical, maybe something modular where you could plug a couple of boxes together. I've seen some DIY kits that look intriguing, but nothing in the way of powerful portable systems. Then you could put the fridge in the shade and plug it into your system in the sun.

That's what I'm planning next, the guys in oz use a deep cycle and those 100w renogy panels with great success. For under $250 You can get a panel, (amazon) charge controller,(amazon) and an Interstate blem.
