Ok, so I'm picking up a 1977 FJ45LWB finally. Been a truck I've wanted for a long time. As some of you who know me, I tend to know very little about what I'm doing :whoops:

Besides a few bits of tech info here, anyone have any great source of the FJ45 for Dummies out there so I can bone up on it? :whoops: :D

A few of you have been a huge help, but I'd like to be able to answer some of my own dumb questions and save the better ones for ya'll.

Damn you :flipoff2: Musta been by accident :flipoff2:
Been scouring the web and haven't found more than just a bit. Guess it will be full learn as I go mode with prob less learn and more go unfortunately.

Get yourself the relevant Engine and B&C Manuals. That will get you partway there, anyway. I know, not that easily done. But wTf.

Everything you need to know about a '77FJ45:
It's nearly the same as a 77FJ40, except for the body, and it may or may not have a full floater rear axle, and may or may not still have front drum brakes. May or may not have a non-usa lower geared h41 four speed. Eveything else should be same except for body stuff. Get a haynes, toyota and gregory's manuals and your good on service work. The biggest and bestest thing you have over Texican is *you* get the joy of open air, windshield down motoring. He doesn't

Special :fliptwo: for Texican and his soon to be "gm-ized" nrhtswb Ameri-45!

Thanks ya'll. Trust me, I got a lot more over Texican than that. :flipoff2: :D

It's the one I'm picking up from Wayne in Canada. Can't tell you how much help he has been. I put some pics up at http://www.yourlandcruiser.com/images/45stuff/lwb/lwb.htm but they are ones I think everyone has seen already.

I know it's got the FF rear, fuel injected F, nv4500, but I didn't think the axle width was same as a 40 etc. Also didn't think the top came off, that that was only pre 67. Hmm, that would be cool. Well, obviously this will be one long learning experience that I'm definitely looking forward to.

I was hoping to soon have a 45LV but that didn't work out. It's going to a great home close to it's current owner though so ya gotta dig that.

I must be mis-reading your post Junkmiester. Are you saying you don't think the top on the blue 77 you bought comes off.

If that is what I am reading, I wanted to let you know that the top on my 78 FJ45 comes off, so I don't see why the one on the 77 doesn't. The only problem with the top coming of is that the shoulder belts attach to the roof, so an alternative would have to be found for seatbelts.

Hey Michael.

Uh, yeah. That's exactly what I was saying. I didn't think the tops came off the later ones. Great to hear they do though.

I guess it's obvious I know even less about this truck than my 80 :D

Yup...I am ready to get this rig on the road topless.

The other problem that I foresee is the removal of the top. Of course I figured I would be clever and use my college edumacation and build a power contraption to remove the top with an electric winch in the rafters of the garage. But then I got to thinking that with the windsheild up and the headache rack on the bed, there isn't enough height in the rafters to allow for the back of the cab to clear either way. And that is with these little garage tires I have on the truck. Once the 275s go on it will only get harder.

THEN AGAIN, I am putting the cart ahead of the horse since I don't even have a rear end on the truck to go anywhere.

I got a 40 for open air motoring.......who told you I was GM'ing my 45?
It has an 85 2F 4 spd with the vacuum shift working, and will stay like this.
I will do PS, disc brakes, mild lift or no lift 33'' tires............
I have every OEM part I removed and the only thing I have cut so far is the hole in the floor for the shifter........
The main thing I got on Junk......not a Yankee..........

The nice thing about LPBs is the tops are smaller than the 40 tops, and therefore significantly easier to remove. It is a little more complex with the headache rack, it is true, but I have the lid and the rear cab panel apart. Stores easier that way and 2 people can easily take it on and off.

What? Does this mean no more Junk in the 80s forum?

Break out the champagne! :flipoff2:

I take it off over the hood, drop the window.....its a little bit of a dance but its not bad.

Sounds good. You have to pull those defrost vent scoops to drop the window. Maybe they changed them for the later years?

Nice 45 junk.. Plans for it?

Thanks. LOL, plan right now is to bring it from Canada to buggerville NJ, go completely over it then hatch a gameplan. Won't know more till then.

I plan on shipping it by train to Toronto then driving it the 10+ hours home from there. Should be fun. Looking forward to it that's for sure.

Damn Junk, what's up with the engine???
steel valve cover, oil fill tube on the block...Is it a really old F?
We may have to name the beast FrankenCruzer......... :flipoff2:
