thanks again everyone, i just wish i could have done something. if i came home at lunch i could have at least checked on him and maybe taken him to the vet. i just feel like i sat here and did nothing because i thought the sickness would pass like other times. this morning was worse that yesterday because i woke up and didn't have a furry friend whining to go outside or sneaking in the kitchen for a snack.

It sucks dude, but don't beat yourself up over it. You had no idea what was happening. Just remember all the good times you've had.

I've had German Shepherds all of my life; they are great dogs. Get yourself another when you feel ready.
 
Sorry to hear of your loss. The death of a good dog always hits hard.

I'm not sure if it is related to the same ailment, but my good friend had his Great Dane's stomach tacked at a young age to prevent rotation. From what I understand, that is also common with large dogs.
