Hey everyone,
Well I am in the process of chasing down the strange sound (See my other post), and a whole new issue has just surfaced; the transmission! Well I know that the trans/t-case seal is bad, so it is pumping oil from the t-case to the trans. But the oil was just checked last week and the fuild in both the trans/t-case was made correct. It is also leaking oil in a few spots on the trans. I was going to put the hose return kit on it and deal with it for a while. Well now every time you shift into 3rd gear it grinds into the gear. It just started this, it has never done this before, EVER! It used to do it every once in a while into second, but that was it. Now it is on every single shift into 3rd. What the heck happened? IS my trans done for? The PO had the trans rebuilt at 124,000 miles, now the truck has 237,000 miles. What is going on?

Please help,
Zack

How do I check the slave cyl?

Zack
easy - look at it to see if it is leaking. It is on the passenger side right underneath the pass seat (under the truck of course). You can also feel it when you push in your clutch. If there is little to no resistance, it could be early signs of failure.

Zack,

Check the 'plastic' bushing inside the shift tower.
Tranny in neutral
4 bolts at corner of boot, under bottom fold
Pull up on boot
See where shift lever enters tranny
Grab 'shell', push down... unwind half-turn
Shift lever, and shell, spring, will come out.
Bottom of lever:
Ball joint few inches above end fits in 'bushing'
that's in tower.
Also check 'blade' at end of lever.

If plastic bushing is worn (missing pieces) or 'blade' is really worn,
you might be trying to shift into 3rd while not quite out of 2nd....

HTH

Pete
