While washing it today, it was a little loose - so I started pulling on it. Every single piece of molding was rusting off, almost every clip was already broken and / or rusted off. One thing led to another, all of one side is off now. Will probably do the rest tomorrow. Right now, it is just painters tape covering the (many... many...) holes. The inside clips on all the old molding is all broken off, so those aren't going back on.

Any recommendations on a cheap way to make this look less bad?

Why on earth would they not have just glued this stuff on like every other car, lol!

Some guys have also just taped over the holes like you have then rhino-lined over the tape and lower portion.

But you did say less bad, and IMO that's not a great look either (if liner is not same color as rest of the truck), so... IDK.

I'm thinking of a small blind rivet hex-head that fits in without rotating. Then a washer and a small bolt on the end. It could look either absolutely awful or kind of cool / industrial.

Not this size, but this idea.

Edit, I'm thinking these -

Just need to figure out if this is a M6 or M8 size that'd best fit. And if the horizontal overlap will be enough with a bolt head. The holds are mostly 9.7m x 1.47m.

I can't imagine how this will look good, but I'm interested in the outcome.

I had them welded shut when the truck was painted. This is how the STD trim vehicles sold outside of the US came from the factory and it makes the 25+ yr old truck look cleaner. I had deformed cladding and it was missing the pieces right next to the rear bumper. I intend to do the same thing with my other '99 when it's time to paint it (original paint is super oxidized and beyond saving at this point, plus I want to change the color on that one too).

Typical crazy Toyota stuff when it comes to Land Cruisers. "Guys, let's offer plain doors, doors with trim AND doors with cladding (all with different holes), that way we need to stock three different parts numbers"....WTH??! It's like the 60 series side mirrors and steering wheels, there are 6+ versions of the former and at least 8 versions of the latter if you count color options!!
