So, I bought a K&N cold air intake from a fellow mud member. We both assumed that it would work on all 100 series years...I guess there is a difference when it comes to 2006/07 years. I knew there were some HP increases for the late model 100's...but didn't think it would be a big deal.

I hooked it all up (prior to realizing it wouldn't work) and the engine seemed to be struggling for air...and wouldn't stay on for more than 5 seconds at a time. It also was throwing check engine and maintenance required errors. The MAF sensor was the first thing I noticed to be different...but the way I had it rigged you would think it wouldn't have made a difference. The other difference I noticed was that the K&N tube had a place for 4 hose connections. The stock intake only had 3 hoses going in to it, so I figured capping off the extra hose spot on the K&N would solve this issue.

The way I had it installed didn't work...does anyone have any ideas that would make it functional for a 2006?

This is what K&N had to say when I emailed support:

Thank you for choosing K & N, unfortunately we don’t offer any intake system for your application and no other information available regarding production.

All K & N intake systems are tested and designed for each year, make and model vehicle. Although they might look similar to some application we don’t recommend use of any intake system on other than what it was designed for. The 57-9021 was only designed for the 99-2005 models. Computer programming and sensors are different from year to year following emission standards.

I have the stock intake installed again, so all is good....I'm just curious if I can make it work at this point

I would say it will work just fine for you, if you go out and buy a 2005 or earlier. K & N gave you a good answer. It is not designed to work, so it is most likely way too much trouble to mod it up enough to work right. John

Yeah, that's what i'm thinking as well.

I guess I'll just call it a loss and try to sell it. I was just curious if anyone else had run in to this issue and if they maybe figured out a work around. I would ultimately worry about it not functioning properly or making the vehicle less reliable if i were to rig it up. I'm cool with not having it.

Anyone wanna take it off my hands now? Haha. :D

If I didnt want a snorkel so bad I would pry grab it from you. I even live in the same town.

I say throw it back up in the classifieds... good luck

Yeah, that makes sense. Thanks.

Quick question for ya since you're in the same area. What loacl shop (if any) do you recommend for bumper ordering/instalation? I've been talking to the guy at cruiserco.com in LR about the TJM and ARB bumper options. I was just curious if there were more local options.

No snorkel yet. Just due to pure laziness of not wanting to clean it. Would rather buy paper filters. :D I'm assuming shipping would be $5 or something through USPS. I'll PM you.

Im not too big on any local shops/dealers if I can be honest. I would order from Slee.com or TRDparts4U.com with the ARB10 Discount code. Get 10 % off that ARB then holler at me and let me help on the Install. Truthfully Im looking at ordering the same front bumper here in the near future...

if your engine is 2UZ-FE VVTi
then kn part number: 63-9032-1 would just fit
I buy it one time and tried to fit it on my 2000 the MAF hole was different so i mod it and some hoses
everything fit but the engine won't start
so I replace it with the right product 57-9021

but I'm sure 63-9032-1 will be good to go
