Finally got to spray something! Been cleaning, sanding, cursing..Normal for a 40 facelift. Black epoxy primer from Summit racing, sprayed with a cheap Harbor Freight HVLP gun, Have never used that type, and I haven't sprayed anything in 2+ decades. Here in So Florida it's still hot and humid. I'd sand and strip the exterior then go to work on the interior and then have to return to exterior to get the new light rust off etc, etc. Finally sprayed the inner tub. I'm impressed with both the gun and the primer. I sprayed in the 2 car garage, warm fogging the goggles, sun going down natural light dwindling. Next day I check it out and it looked really darn good! and that gun really covered great. Now hope to do the exterior right after Christmas. It's been so long since I've driven my unit...Maybe the end is in sight...Rescue green metallic single stage...Gonna be so cool...I hope..

Epoxy Primer is pretty amazing stuff. Two notes:

1) Make sure you are wearing PPE. Isocyanides are nothing to sneeze at.
2) I would plan on scuffing and laying down one last thin coat of epoxy primer the day before (or JUST before) you spray the paint. The epoxy "grips" the metal, and will "grip" the paint if you do that. Typically have 7 days from application to get the paint on for the best bond.

Yes proper face filter in place and I'm with you there on the pre paint epoxy coat, thanks, good advice. going to see how a couple of coats of the epoxy look overall on the body. I also have some grey urethane 2K primer which I don't really want to use unless I just have to. It kinda defeats the reason I used the black epoxy primer as the green is quite dark and I figured the black primer would not show up much for scratches etc that accumulate. I want the paint to look good but I'm sure "laser straight" will not apply to my garage paint job!

You really need a fresh air system, face filters really don't cut it with any of the nasty automotive paints. A Hobby Air system will run ya $500-600 for full face mask, worth every penny.

30min to 72hrs to topcoat on epoxy. I just sprayed my 2nd coat after the first yesterday and then 5hrs sanding this evening. In 45mins to an hour I am back out in the shop to lay down the top coats. Burning the midnight oil! ;)

Cheers
