One of the awesome ideas that was bounced around at our lunch meeting today was the idea of doing a So Cal swapmeet.:bounce:

Possible locations discussed included Saugus Swapmeet, Pomona swapmeet, Off Road Expo and Long Beach Veterans stadium.

The criterium we discussed was
a. picking a place that would be CENTRAL enough to draw folks from as far south as San Diego to participate;
b. Some place used to having vehicles on hand [making it easier for us to get insurance coverage.

And of course we could have a show and shine for our attendees as well as a swapmeet.

THe other cool thing about these locations is that they have meets on a regular basis, so we can take our time organizing and pick a date when we've nailed down what we want to do, and how to do it.

Hats off to Joey, Alfred and Dana for brainstorming this!

Yeah I had already started a little bit of footwork last week by contacting Rocketdyne about using their parking lot as they typically host similar events. But as the lunch meet progressed there were some stronger locales discussed that would just make more sense. The idea is to make it an annual event which really meant focusing on a central location as opposed to ANY location that will just say yes.

Moving it South just made sense. I will start by trying to reconnect with old Events/Media contacts and seeing what is out there and what we could potentially piggy back onto.

My neighbor and friend is "Mr. Racecar", he's seriously into cars, etc.

I'll ask him for suggestions about venues that host car shows, and see what he comes up with.

Hey guys, it was great seeing everyone again yesterday, and meeting a couple new faces.

And the food wasn't bad either!!

:grinpimp:

Northridge Toyota would be willing to host the event if you guys want. Just let me know and I'll let my buddy who is the parts mgr. know and he will talk to the owner about it.

How would that work out? I don't recall there being a whole lot of space there. Unless they moved the cars up front to the back or if the back of the store is where it could be? Just trying to visualize it.

The discussion actually started this go around because Mark and I had both been to the swap meet in Petaluma and I was just curious why there wasn't one in SoCal. The Petaluma one I thought was pretty successful but they had I would say about 50 Toyota trucks and about another 50 other vehicles. That's a lot of space for a meet in Petaluma. Doing one in SoCal could only attract tons more.

They have plenty of room, there used to be an annual truck/car show that they put on in their truck lot, (just moved their new stock to the back). Appearances from Ivan Stewart, 4WDTO mag and vendors. He hasn't put one on for a year and a half but he has been wanting to do something again. Whoever is heading this up, give me your cell #in a PM and I'll pass it on to him and you guys can discuss the details.

Does anyone ELSE in this chapter have some imput on this?

I think it is a great idea, I have a bunch of parts to sell. I will check with a few of my auto repair customers who have room to host an event such as this to see if they would allow a swapmeet on their grounds.

That's way cool John!:bounce: Keep in mind that we'd also like to have the option of having a show and shine truck show possibility, so we'd need to have enough room for that as well. Have you been to the Petaluma swapmeet [for comparison]?

I have a few odds and ends. Assuming I'm free I would at least attend.

I think it's a good idea.... I just dont get on the comp very much anymore...(or next to it) I think the dealership idea is good, we are mostly Toyotas.

My buddy at Northridge Toyota said he returned the call but hasn't heard anything since then.

Well two things, 1) In his message he stated he was looking for a proposal to bring to his boss. We don't have a proposal. We have the beginning stages and are unprepared with any details. 2) After the lunch two weeks ago a lot of very good input was made about location and about centralizing the location for all of SoCal.

Due to my current project work load I haven't been able to do much else with this but I am about two finish two of them early next week so I can start being more proactive on this.

Right now its JUST in the discussion phase.
