Is it feasable to set-up my FJ-62 as a plowtruck? It seems like it would probably do a pretty good job. Any tips or suggestions are appreciated.

Hello,
The only company that makes a custom plow set up for the 60/62 is "Sno-Way". I think the plow is some sort of composite material. You could fit another plow on the truck, however it would be all custom. My local Toyota dealer uses an 88 62 as there lot plow truck. They took the truck in on trade about 3yrs ago, with 111,000 miles on the odo. At that point the truck was in mint cond. Now 3yrs later it is a total POS with TONS of rust! I don't know what shape your 62 is in, but I sure as hell would never plow with my truck unless I wanted to watch it rot away in one season. Hell my 60 is rotting before my eyes and I never drive it when it is snowing. I guess my point is that there are a lot better options out there for plow trucks, and the last thing I would do is plow with a 60/62, I just think it is a bad idea. GEt a Heep to plow with.

my 2 cents,
Zack

I have a Meyer plow on my '84 - custom mounted to my custom front bumper. Biggest issue is distance to mount: supposed to be 10-12" & mine is more like 14".

Snow doesn't rust Cruisers.

Trashed or not

Plowing can destroy a vehicle faster than anything else I know of - not rust - but generalized abuse to the entire drive train.

Sure, it depends on the usage - one driveway or multiple lots- and how gentle the driver is. I've watched guys ram berms doing 20-30mph and wondering why things break. My favorite plow rig - mid 80s 1-ton stake body, 2wd, with duelies and chains on a short chasis and a 400ci engine. Great truck and with chains if you got it stuck you did something terribly wrong. Total cost $1800 with a plow.

Sure you could do it, but I personally think the 62 has to little power and is to heavy to be an effective plow rig. And is way to expensive to fix.

I only have a 700' driveway to plow & can't stand the thought of yet another single-purpose vehicle. Plus it was one of the justifications for the 5.7 Vortec & 4L60E. I won't be ramming a snowbank at 30mph.

Everyone has there own ideas and they can do what they want with their trucks. I however feel that the 60/62's make bad plow trucks, and hell why ruin a classic truck when you can get a cheap plow truck and not worry about it. And YES snow and salt WILL ROTTTTT A 60/62 VERY fast! You could have a solid axle Chevy with a plow for 2,000 and it would still be cheaper than putting one on a 60/62.

There is NO WAY I would ever use one of my own vehicles to plow with. Especially an FJ62. The front suspension and drivetrain is just not built for the abuse, no matter how much you baby it.

When I bought my '84 pickup back in '99, it was only used by the PO for weekend dump runs and for plowing his small 100' driveway. Every single bearing and seal in the entire front end was shot, and the springs were inverted. A year after I got it, the tranny let go (150K on it). A year after that, the frame rotted in half.

Pay someone else to do it, it's a lot cheaper in the long run. Let them beat the hell out of their vehicle.

A) Someone else won't be here at 4AM so my wife can get out @ 5
B) Someone else will destroy stuff on the sides of the drive because they don't know what's there (from a friend who plows houses under construction)
C) The Meyer dealer who sold me the stuff to hook up my 2nd hand plow has one on a 40 he's used for 20 years - still OK
D) Trying to build the rig so it won't break with prudent driving
E) Front range Colorado snow conditions are much different than the northeast (with the exception of the 100-yr blizzard a couple of years ago)

Well, then if you can't find a decent company that you trust to do it right, I would look for an old beater truck that you can park out back, use that instead. Something that you don't have to insure or put plates on.

I still wouldn't beat up my Cruiser.

But sometimes the Cruiser IS the beater... ;) I think a 6x series is a fine truck to plow snow with. Just design the plow mount properly and drive smart.

But I know KLF and I will have to agree to disagree on this one! :D

The question I wanna ask is: How is it that wheeling a Cruiser is cool (with dents and busted parts) while plowing with a Cruiser is evil (with no dents and fewer to no busted parts)? Both activities beat the crap outa vehicles so whats the big deal?? At least plowing has a useable result; you can drive down the driveway... ;p

upgraded or stock suspension? shouldn't really rust unless he like salts his driveway? they use gravel up here on the roads, tons of snow for quite some time... no rust problems on my FJ62 :D
