Snow tires?

You won't have fun in Blizzaks, they stick like your tonque to a ski lift in February.

Personally, I don't think you can beat studded aggressive tires in the snow/ice. For regions with stud limitations, I'm a firm believer in the old Goodyear AT/S tread: an excellent snow performer in my book, but they've been recently discontinued so supplies may be limited.

dunlop sj5 comes in an 18 inch rim size. i run them and they are amazing in the snow. i also ran blizzacks on my old 98 crusier, and they were also amazing.

I bought a set of Yokohamas (F340s I think is what they are) about 4 years ago for my non-Toyota DD...31x10.5 15s

I got them from Discount Tire for CHEAP...There were the previous years model and they were trying to get rid of them. IIRC I paid $75/tire if that. I absolutely LOVE the tires. 4 seasons on them and they still have good tread! I only run them for about 4-5 months.

About 3 years ago we had a really nasty blizzard with 3+ feet of snow. I never got stuck, not once. I drove around the neighborhoods, pulled out a stuck Expedition, my sister's Subaru, made tracks for in and out for neighbors, etc. On a heavy 4 wheel drive vehicle in an area that sees a fair amount of snow/ice I believe having a set of dedicated snow tires gives your 4x4 the capability it is supposed to have in the snow. Before them my truck was a 3 ton sled in the snow/ice...Downright scary.

IMO you want a snow tire that is fairly supple but may not to the extent of the Blizzaks.

As a point of comparison my summer tires are a set of Revos. Nice tire for the most part but the claim that they do great in the snow is IMO a little over the top. They do ok, and MUCH better than the OEM Goodyear RTS tires I had but compared to a dedicated snow tire...well they just don't compare.

If you can't find what you want in your size then it may be worthwhile to buy a second set of wheels (rims) in a more common size to mount the snows on...

If it helps, my in-laws in Hokkaido (this is snow country) use Blizzaks on all of their vehicles, and they drive/corner amazingly fast for the conditions (I lived in upstate NY for 6 years w/ Goodyear Wrangler M+S tires on my 2wd mini, and would never dare to drive at those speeds in those conditions (mostly mountain & country roads).
