OOO SLAM! (On me I'm guessing :D ) If that Tundra antenna works can ya post a pic? I'll refer people to that on my site. Thanks!

Not at all John.

At first I went with the Chrysler one and it fit ok but I looked at my brothers Tundra and it seemed like it would fit perfectly. Remember, the Chrysler antenna's may differ from year to year and I may have had a different one than you.

A friend needed a new one on his Dodge truck due to car wash damage so I helped him out and got the Tundra one for myself:)

I will be doing a write-up with part numbers, etc. soon on the Tundra antenna.

I've been shopping for a Snorkle, the cheapest I've found so far was $264 shipped. Anybody find it cheaper?

Victor - what are you doing trolling for a 100 series Snorkle? Where did you find that price?

Calamaridog,
Any more info on this yet? My power antenna just drew its last breath yesterday. If you have the part number of the Tundra antenna you used that would help. I'll just order one from C-Dan.

I'll post the p/n tomorrow. I'm at work right now and I don't have it.

The problem I have right now is the plugs are different on the antenna. The one that runs from the stock radio and behind the dash has a smaller plug than the Tundra antenna. It comes down to the kick panel on the passenger front and plugs into the line from the antenna.

I haven't been to Radio Shack to see if they have an adaptor. I was hoping for plug and play but this isn't exact. Maybe the antenna from the 97+ Tacoma would have the correct smaller plug? Not sure.

Just build your own, I used a safari head and fabbed the rest. Take your time and it will look have decent.

I'm waiting for my safari snorkel to arrive and in anticipation, I've picked up a land cruiser manual antenna today. If it doesn't fit with the snorkel, the dealer said I could always bring it back. I'm not sure about the connection, do you guys think it would fit? the price was about $19 btw..

Greg, sorry for the delay. The pn for the Tundra assembly is 86300-0c010. It's about $33 usd.

Siglo, take the plastic kick panel off at the passenger side and check the plug. The panel comes off real easy.

*** update ***

The snorkel is installed now.. The manual antenna I got worked perfectly.. no need to change the plug or anything :)

Siglo,

That part number isn't showing up in the U.S.

that does not surprise me since it is for the basic G 100 series.. over here, we have 4 petrol versions of the 100 series

G - entry level I6
GX - mid I6
GX-R top of the line I6
VX-R - top of the line v8

there are severals versions of each also.. check out this site for the different models..

the manual antenna I used is seen usually on diesel and G LCs

FYI, I used the same base as CalamariDog from the Tundra. This base fits really well on the fender up top. Underneath, you have to use a little arm bracket if you want to use the original mount on the wheel well to secure the base. You'll see when you get in there, any 3" strip of metal will do.

Connecting the wires was the hard part. When you unplug the original connectors in the side panel under the glove-box, the new Tundra plug (male) is too big to fit in the 100's connector (female) To fix this, I bought a couple screw-on-type RG-58 female connectors and a coupler at Radio shack.

I cut the connector (male) off the old antenna wire along with about 3 inches of the cable and added one of the female connectors onto the cable. Then I cut off the connector (also male) on the Tundra cable and discarded. I then added another female connector to the end of the Tundra cable where the connector was cut off. Then I used a coupler to connect the two female connectors together.

I also ended up tearing up the little fasteners that hold the plastic wheel well panel in place. There are 11 of these little guys. I ordered more of them from C-Dan. The part number is 53879-60010. They are less than a doller each.

Lastly, the part Calamaridog listed is for the base only. You also have to buy the mast. I don't have the part number for the mast, but it was less than $30.

Total including the base and cable, the mast, and the fasteners was about $65. Edit: I forgot the parts from Radio Shack were another $11. Overall, not bad considering my dealer wanted $270 for a new power antenna.

Greg,

Thanks for beating me to this. I am still at the part where I need to add the new fasteners to the existing antenna cables.

I've mastered not tearing up the little plastic fasteners. I have a bag full of extras just in case;)

I'll check Radio Shack for those connectors. I'm real dumb about this stereo stuff:doh:

They have masts at Kragen that cost less than $30 so I'll get one of those.

This is a great mod to get rid of that annoying power antenna and make room for the snorkle:cheers:

I like my power mast and would like to keep a power unit and have the snorkel is this a possibility at all? Or do I have to use a standard mast? What about an amplified unit? then try to find a way to cap off the hole in the fender... and where can you get the snorkel for less than $300?

Here's a different style I found on a Google image search! There's a pic of one on an 80 and a 100. I just got an "Eew, I don't like that one" from the wife!!
