Super last minute but my roommate and I are headed up to snake lake saturday around 11 am for a quick day trip to meet up with some of his buddies that drive Mitsubishi Monteros. I know it sounds weird that these guys have monteros but they seem to be a knock off of a 4runner with a rear locker at 1/4 of the price. Apparently there is going to be 12 rigs total out there including my 80 and my roommates 2013 TRD taco.

Snake Lake is rated as "Difficult" for the Sierra Buttes area near gold lake but i really believe that it shouldnt be had at all from the pictures and videos that i have seen.

Again its super last minute but i thought i should post it up here just incase anyone wants to join.

Should take about an hour and 10 minutes to get there and then 2-3 hours for the 6 mile loop.

So how was the trip? That was the first run I ever went in with my stock cruiser back in 1999. It was a fun run but one bump in the trail made me realize that I needed to modify my rig if I was going to continue doing this. Hence the lockers, SAS, SM420 for gears and the bump from 31s to 35s. And the $$ trail continues. After the Marlin crawl this last weekend coming out on the road from hell I did something that made my motor run really rough. Maybe I knocked the distributor or something with the carb?????????? May need to put Barrett on hold if I can't figure it out.

Oh by the way thanks for posting. Wish I could have made it. The Rubicon was rough :bounce2::eek::zilla:even with the stacking from the Jambos.

It was cool, like i said there was a huge gap in skill level in the group and this off shoot was the only challenging portion that i know of. Hardest part was making the 20 pt turn to get out of a big bowl at the top of the rock formation. Honestly i would have driven right by it but some guy in his montero tried to get up it but couldnt make it. I dont think that it is worth it to run the trail again for me. I would much rather take a quick trip to try and run deer valley or at least something challenging.

Bummer to hear about the motor, incorrect idle, knocking, or just general lack of guts?

I think I just rattled the distributor loose. It just won't idle right. It kind of acts like when it loads up when it gets a tad bit hot. Lots of backfire compression when going own hill. So I will first look at the dist. then that carb and that should reveal the gremlin.:android: I'll figure it out. Two hours on the road out from the "Con" is almost unbearable. It is bumpy and long and you can't get any speed up without rattling your rig and brain to hell.:wacky: Fordyce looks better and better all the time.

hopefully it is easily resolved, you will have to post some pictures from Barrett if you make it up there

The ruff running was due to the fact that my automatic choke gets power from a fuse that also works my headlights. So the day after I get home I make a run to the store at 8:00 and no headlights. So I just use my offroads to get home-no problem. Still ran rough. HMMM so I replace the fuse for the lights and the engine is now running better and I have headlights. The auto choke must have power to keep the carb open when the engine is warm.:meh:

That doesnt seem to make sense that they are powered off of the same fuse... any chance you can isolate the choke and run a separate fuse? Was the fuse blown by drawing too much power or a short in the system?

Well that's my electrical engineering for ya. The fuse box is not a real reliable piece of work. It sits down by the gas pedal and i'm sure it gets hit by my boot at times and there was some water on the way out. Who knows? Ya I could run it to another fuse right after I replace the spring perches and springs and fix the oil leak and re-tube, replace the u-joints in my front driveline etc etc etc.

Yeah that may be a little low on the list there. Sorry to hear that all the maintenance has to happen.
