I really don't think I have a problem but want to run this by you guys. I have recently been concerned with a smog/air pump that was occassionally sticking and so my belt would screach and, voila it would unstick. So the day I had a belt burn up in an instant, due to the pump siezing I decided to look into a solution. The final solution after many different opinions is I gutted the pump, left the shaft and bearings in place (impellers/propeller were rusty) to use the pulley and same belt sizes. Per a local mechanic, I left the hoses attached (to and from the pump)as it will not cause any problems.

What do you guys think? Will this cause a problem to my Catalytic or overheating issues? Or what?

Thanks all

been running a 'gutted' pump for a long, long time...( 3 yr...about 40K miles)

Head over to a local alternator rebuild shop and pay them peanuts for a gutted alternator. You may have to get slightly creative with mounting but that was going to be my next idea. Or hell put in a second Alternator!
