Ok well on my way to work today and the smog pump seized and sent the lovely aroma of burning rubber into the air.

the pump is only 10mounths old and i still have the reciept with the one year warrenty. so i can get a new one if needed.

Below are pics of the engine. I consider it "semi-desmogged" due the the absents of air cleaner and EGR hoses because of the header.

my question is can i seimply move the alt/PS pump beltback one pulley?? .(the smog pump belt also drives the water pum and fan. i think)

picture of my idea attached with my bad photoshop skills, the red is where the alt/PS belt goes stock. Green is where want to move to make the water pump and fan run and so i dont have to instatll the pointless smog pump

plzz help i need the cruiser back up and running by monday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

The smog pump and water pump share a belt with the crank.

You'll never get it smogged w/o a smog pump. That said, just bypass the smog pump with a shorter belt to just drive the water pump.

the smog pump provides the tension ajustment for the belt on the water pump. You need some sort of pully and ajustment to power the water pump. SOR sells a kit but it is $$$ that being said i may get one Im on my third smog pump (aftermarket) and my new one that is a month old squeals and My power steering does not leak.

Hi, I do that regularly:rolleyes: . Just have a belt handy so you can run the important stuff till you get a new smog pump. Mind you, I have an FJ55, but it's about the same, I keep a belt to run the water pump & p/s pump when the smog pump goes (which is often)

If you want to eliminate the smog pump, go with the eliminator bracket from JimC. He is here on the board, and his bracket is about a third of the price of SOR's. I got mine for $95 shipped about 2 months ago. Works great by the way.

If you have strong biceps, it's an easy fix.

The stock belt routing runs the waterpump, powersteering and smog pump. All you really need is the waterpump. Wierdly, the AC belt fits and can be used to run just the waterpump. (I got home this way when mine siezed on the freeway. Drove it for three weeks on that skinny belt.) Other option is to carry a spare - size I've found to fit is 15A1230. Last four numbers are length in mm's.

Sunrise is at 7:30 tomorrow, you are rolling by 8:15 easily! OK, 8:20 if you wash your hands when you are done...

I've driven the cruiser without ps and i wouldn't recommend it even if you're driving exclusively over ice and snow or all highways.

You're maneuverability is severly compromised at slow and no speed.

Legend has it that the only air pumps worth a sxxt are new OEM ones-unfortunately, big $$$$.

I went throu 2 re-man before I broke down and got an OEM. No problems since.

I can't wait for 2008 and I am going to de-smog this thing!

dont know how soon you need it but i may be selling all the polution crap off of mine(as a hole or in pieces)....i just started the project the other day....but im still in the disection phase...and it may be a few weeks till im done...not to mention im not sure what i want to do yet to replace the pump itself...im definatly not buy the $OR tensioner...i will probably fab my own

Second Jim C.s pulley. Had one of my desmogged locals get one not too long ago. Beautiful in it's simplicity, it was a VERY CLEAN answer to his need. Hopefully one day I can desmog and get one for myself as well.;)

any one got a pic of JimC's smog elemintor bracket??
