Hi all,
Have a question regarding what a failing smog pump would sound like, or at least some of the symptoms (and reprocussions) of it failing. Been replacing a lot of the emission system on my '87 FJ60 (new VCV, all three VSVs, new vacuum hose). I had posted a bit ago about the timing being off, but after replacing all the valves and cleaning out and reinstalling the carb, the old boy is running like a champ but has started to make a wicked noise on occasion. Sounds at first like I left a bolt inside something and it's rattling around. Shakes up the entire engine and sounds like its coming from around the area of the smog pump. The noise is fairly random (not at any specific RPM or gear), just started doing it yesterday when I reinstalled the carb (yeah, I checked that I tightened everything and reconnected it all
). Could it be the smog pump? Would love a little help, as even a rebuilt one (which would put the boy out of commision for who knows how long) is a good bit o' change.
Thanks!
