So I finished up surfing today and some foolish guys decided to drive a 2wd Yukon with 20" rims onto the beach. They talked some guys into linking trucks up and pulling them out, then promptly buried themselves up to the axle again.
It was about 35 degrees out with a strong windchill and getting dark so after lending them my tow strap and watching them destroy it I decided to winch them out of the sand.
It was pretty dark and I had to move from the front to the back of their truck and when we were almost done my winch stopped working.
The warn winch controller cable got looped funny in the dark and got smashed in the tightening cable. I cut the controller cable and spliced the wires but it still doesn't work.
I'm wondering if the cable being smashed could have messed up the controller? Or did I damage my winch? I'm hoping I can just buy a new warn winch controller and tow strap and call it a lesson learned, but I would be pretty disappointed if I damaged my nice winch!
Let me know if you guys have any thoughts or have experienced this.
On the upside I was really impressed with how well the warn pulled the Yukon out of the deep sand, and after the winch stopped working I put my 80 in 4 low and pulled it right out easy.
