Any recommendations?

I'm looking for something that fits comfortably in a shirt pocket. I want at least 5MP, 3x optical zoom and macro (close-up) capability. I had a Sony DSC-T7 but it's on the blink now. It was a great size, just about exactly the size of my razr phone. I think they're discontinued, and all the new Sonys are bigger.

I like my Canon SD1000 Digital Elph. A bit smaller than the others...

optio s6 or s7 they i have the s6 and i carry mine around in an altoids can.

buddy does the same

he was in prague for a semester and his room was broken into, everything he had, lap top, wallet ect. was gone except for this camera since it was int he altoids tin

Can't go wrong with Canon's...if you like big screens look at the SD630...huge. SD700 has Image Stabilization and works well/cheap.

just got a canon sd1000 last week and so far it has exceeded my expectations. it replaced a sony cybershot i had used for the last 5 years. i almost bought the dsc-t10 but opted at the last minute to go with the canon. glad i did.

I like the waterproof optio's for a pocket sized camera. They dont have a motorized lense, so their zoom is limited, but its one less thing to break if you have it in your pack or pocket and it gets turned on....... And they are waterproof, not just resistant.. They can actually be rinsed off and such..

Canon A550 or SD700

Nikon Coolpix - about any. I prefer the older versions (ie 5600) just because they still have optical viewfinders. The L-series dropped that. I've used the viewfinders a TON in bright sunlight.

GUMBY - dump the crappy software from Canon and use any one of the dozens of better programs. Also, you can tell it to not startup when it detects your cameras (easier solution!).

The problem isn't when it detects the cameras. It's incompatible with something at start up. What's a good software package? I'd love to be able to edit the pics without having to open with Ifranview

nikkon cool pix l1 6.2 5x zoom little fatter but size of cards?

Gumby,

IRFanView is hands down my preferred program. What problems are you having with it?

I like IRFan because 1. its free 2. support for damn near every file type on earth including Nikon RAW 3. does 80% of what Photoshop does with 10% of the hassle 4. capabilities to do batchwork and automate some processes for high volume 6. works flawlessly for me 6. did I mention it's free!

When you set up IRFan, you can set the file types so that it will associate with IRFan. I set mine as the default for all photo types, but not other "media" (movies, sound, etc). All I need to do is double click the file name and it opens in IRFan instead of the XP viewer and I immediately have full edit capabilities. If you need detailed help setting it up, hit me off-line.

Alternatives: When you plug your camera into the computer (or insert your memory card) you can view thumbnails right in Windows Explorer. XP has a decent photo VIEWER (no editing) that works for quickly looking at pics. Other great software, but alot more complicated (and expensive!) to use... Photoshop, MS Expressions Media (bought out IView), Breeze Browser and several others.
