I installed a sm465 about 450 miles ago. Everything works well except for a series of clunks that I get when the clutch is engaged, especially under load. It literally sounds like something is loose in the tranny or clutch housing.
I dropped the tranny this weekend to do some improvements and to see if I could figure out what was going on. Everything looked good, the endplay was tight, the gears rotated freely and the oil was clean.
However it did seem like the reverse fork might have been damaged. I haven’t have any problems engaging reverse but I’m wondering if maybe the gear is not being held in place during normal driving.
Anyone know if this reverse gear is OK or has one end been snapped off? Am I reaching here? Anyone know anything else I should check before I put the tranny back in the truck?
Thanks for the input!
