I've been looking for a clutch inspection cover for my SM420 for weeks. This is the sheetmetal cover that bolts to the bottom of the bell housing. I haven't found any... and I've talked to several people along the way who are also searching for the same part.

I ended up buying an inspection cover for a Saginaw transmission used on Chevy trucks of from the 60ies through the 90ies. I found it on Ebay and paid $45 after shipping. It is a new part, and the seller was a parts department at a Chevy dealer on the east coast. The part arrived today, and I'm thrilled with it. It will fit with VERY little modification. I'll need to trim away just a little bit of it, where it contacts the engine block. Also 3 of the 4 bolt holes line up... and the 4th is only 1/8" off.

I'm passing this information along for all you out there trying to track down this hard to find part. The GM part number on it is 0371447, and GM calls is an 'underpan.' Hope this helps some of you.

cool... theres no way in hell that would fit my SM465 setup though and i'm missing my clutch cover as well...

thanks for the info

You are still missing the front part of the cover. Goes between the pan and flywheel. These were standard pieces on all 60's pick ups with the fourspeed truck gearboxes.

yea, the front part is the one I am missing- have the bottom cover. anyone have the part number for that?

cheers-
Dustin

Ah! But I'm not! Unfortunately the angle of both photos don't show it... but the shape of this pan does go inbetween the motor and flywheel, completely sealing up the bellhousing. Its actually that part, where the pan goes between the flywheel and motor that it will need some minor trimming to make it work.

Thank for passing that information along. I have been looking for the same thing!

No kidding. There I go again thinking things should be the way they are. Mine is missing as well. How much from GM?
