I pulled the valve cove off of the 62 today and there was oil caked everywhere. I cleaned the valve cover and then I used the shop vac to suck up the caked oil on top of the head. There was so much, and I am sure I didn't get it all. But my question is what can I use or do to remove all of the sludge from under the valve cover and from top of the head? Is there a cleaner, or can I remove the spark plugs and drain oil and the pressure wash it?
There is more of a possibility that you will dislodge some of the chunks and they will get trapped in the motor causing issues than if you leave them alone..
In that case, I would go with the Seafoam in the crankcase. I would pour it in before taking the truck to get an oil change and drive it for a half hour or so, then do the change. I haven't done it myself, but that seems to be the most recommended method of doing it.
To avoid more buildup in the future, I would switch to a full synthetic oil and always use a high quality filter (K&N or stock Toyota, though Toyota doesn't make the large filters anymore, so I use K&N. The HP3001 is the right model for our engines). I've been running synthetic for years and my engine gets cleaner every time I change it.
Hey cabron, you said "chinks". For shame sir, for shame
I have 209K miles on it and it runs strong abused or not. I does leak oil but very very little, and I think that is the oil pan gasket that is leaking.
I am going to invest a little money into it when I get a chance, I have been thinking about a 350 swap and then rebuild the 3fe and find myself a non running 62 to drop it in.
