I have noticed over about the last two years, my coolant level decreases. I have probably added coolant three times over the past two years. I have no noticeable leaks (on ground or in engine bay).

Never heard of an engine "burning" coolant like oil, what could be the cause of this?

ps, I am due for timing belt/water pump replacement but again don't see any leakage.

Oops, spelled coolant wrong - can a mod fix so I don't look more stupid.

- could be leaking from water pump weep hole and never know it if its evaporating before it makes it past the covers.

- heater hose tees?

- a hardened rubber hose anywhere in the system with an imperfect seal.

- head gasket (unlikely)

- heater core (unlikely)

I replaced every water hose, both large and small, on the front of the engine because of hardening rubber concerns. None were leaking and it was excessive maintenance, but it's how I roll.

Get a pressure tester, and run the system up to 18psi. Even minor leaks will often show up when you have a chance to look around with the system cold but pressurized. It should hold pressure for hours, so be patient and your small leak may show itself.
