My first post to any forum ever. I bought a 73 FJ40 with the body in good shape, but lots of mechanical issues. The poor truck wandered all over the road. We rebuilt the suspension, tranny transfer case hubs and put in power steering. After three months my mechanic friend gave it back to me and said the steering was as good as he could get it. If I want it better he said install some shims to change the camber or caster?? Well, the steering is a lot better but it ain't very stable...still wanders quite a bit. Is this a common problem, and are there alignment specialists who can fix this? It's way out of my capabilities.

you stated rebuilt the suspension, did that include all new leaf spring bushings?
other areas to look at:
tie rod ends
center arm assembly
trunion bearings
steering box itself

have someone slowly move the steering wheel back and forth and look for any movement other than rotation

take it to a shop that does alignments (tire shop) and have them align it,
best 100 bucks spent.
i had mine done after frame off and it was amazing the difference
