First of - yeah, I know... I'm not solving the big issues here. But, this small amount of fraying has begun to bug the &$#^ out of me... I find that I'm constantly playing with it. Not trying to - just driving along and yep - that's what my right hand is up to. It's a couple inches above the buckle - by my right hip. Like that tiny thread knot that forms in your jeans pocket, or that one whisker on your lip that you missed, or that... you get it.

With anything else like this, I'd get out the lighter and eliminate the frayed fibers. That works with most fibers. But... some react like bomb fuses and run! Don't want that with the seat belt.

So... think I'm safe to cauterize the annoying fray?

I don't know about heat, seems reasonable.
What about crazy glue or some fabric adhesive?

Just text with your right hand when you drive. Everybody else in ATL does anyway.

But actually... I'm thinking you could trim the offending fibers and spray the area with a clear kind of sealant/clear coat that will keep them from unraveling again. Heat would work but will inevitably leave dark spots on the synthetic fibers like when you burn a rope end. Or, you could probably pick up some cool trail cred by wrapping/frapping the webbing with some sweet paracord.

If you actually want your seat belt to work properly you will replace it or have it rebuilt. If you just wear your seat belt to avoid a ticket then just trim it close with scissors and melt the rest with a cigarette lighter and smash it with well licked fingers.

I dont know for sure, but would think it might be less safe to use a bad seat belt than to not wear one at all.
