Sliding Rear Window Lock

To increase the security, I'm thinking about upgrading this plastic piece to a custom made aluminum one. Any thoughts on this? I've contacted someone willing to give a quote on making the piece in aluminum if I can find an spare one to send to him to evaluate.

Perhaps the best way to upgrade security in this area is to use one of those locks they use on sliding display case glass?

How do you plan on setting this sliding glass lock to work? Does the lock goes on the inside or outside? It only works if the lock is on the outside and the lock is not weather-proof.

Some thoughts on this;
First, thieves are not that smart. They will rarely try to open a window when hitting it with a pipe is easier. I once worked unlocking cars for AAA. I could usually unlock a car without damage faster than an idiot can break glass. Shows where their minds are at! Second, a display case lock must pass between the two layers of glass. There is a seal there. The lock will cause a whistle or leak, at best. It will also scratch the heck out of any window tint you have. Third, if you don't want the window opened, just put a length of copper tube in the track like you do on your arcadia doors.
Once we lined up 5 of the AAA company Tahoes, all locked. I had all five alarms screaming and the doors open in under 4 minutes! Do you feel secure?

I think a quick search here suggests other wise. many people here have reported there trucks being broken into through the rear windows. If i understand correctly 97 fzj80 is looking to have the original latch cast or (insert manufacturing process here) this would give you a much stronger latch that cant be pried open or broken loose. My only concern is addressing the small metal clip where the latch attaches too. It too would have to be "up graded" if this were to be a security measure. If i remember correctly the clip is part of the window frame itself so something would have to done there as well

Definitely interested. For now I just use a zip-tie around the whole window lock. Seems to work for now.

I think there is alot of truth in this statement.

If they want in they are just going to break a window.
