Just past the middle of nowhere in South Texas
In the middle of install of my new Slee rear bumper. Slee is closed and I'm trying to finish up this weekend, so I can set final lift height and finally get the alignment done.

The bumper is awesome and would highly recommend it for anyone considering a rear bumper.

I've got to point where I need to install the tire carrier (the actual tire holder, not the swing out). I've measured the tire depth and subtracted 1/4 inch per instructions. The slide that has the bolts for mounting the tires is really tight on the swing out. By really tight, I mean I cannot get it to fit over the mounting location. I would call Slee and talk with them, but again they're closed now until Monday and I'm trying to finish installation this weekend. For those who have installed the tire carrier swing out, is this normal and do I just need to get rough with it to go over the mounting location?

I figured it shouldn't just freely move, but also didn't want to scratch up the nice powder coating anymore than I already have.

Any help/suggestions is appreciated.

Thanks.

If I remember correctly, mine fit perfectly. Are you putting it on without the tire mounted?

Just to ask probably an obvious answer, but I am idiot and make dumb mistakes all the time. You are putting the part that mounts on the tire ONTOP of the part on the swing out? I just went out and double checked mine to see what could be the problem. other than being bent and powder coating being too thick I can't see anything else.

Hey John, I agree with Nick, maybe powder coating is causing interference?

You'll be ready to run black bear next year with all that new gear right?!?

Yeah, trying to mount it on top. Although, when I couldn't get it to go on top, I did try to slide it under. Still no luck.

I did some measurements and it does seem the opening where the tire mount attachment goes over the swing arm is a little narrow. Agree, likely powder coating.

I sent Christo an email earlier today about the issue, thinking he would get it tomorrow morning. Nope, Christo is on the ball!! He responded shortly after I sent the email today (Sunday, when his shop is closed and during his personal time with family). You really have to appreciate the service and support he and his crew provide (and I have to admit I have asked him a ton of questions through the install of my lift and the rear bumper). It is very rare these days you get that level of service and support.

God willing. That's the plan. After seeing all the great pictures from that run, I am seriously regretting not giving it a try on this year's trip.

I'm looking forward to the trip next year and having the Land Cruiser properly outfitted (uh, uhm, cause we all know that's why I didn't do Black Bear this year.....wink, wink). Hoping it works out to get to go.

Good deal. That was an epic trail.

Hopefully the date will get set a lot earlier this year so people can schedule it up.

Bloomer, I installed my Slee rear this weekend as well and had the same problem. I emailed pictures and measurements to Slee over the weekend, but know they wont have a chance to look at it until Monday. I'm sure they'll make it right, so I wasn't going to even mention it here. Hearing you have the same problem is interesting. Our batch must have been overly powder coated or had a jig bumped or something. I'm not in a hurry, so I'm not sweating it. The system is a heavy duty beast. It'll get worked out.

*update* replacement received and fits perfectly
