Those axes look really cool. I went the lower buck high-tech route and bought a 23" Fiskars axe at the local big box store for driving felling wedges. I broke the handle on my first one (my stupidity trying to free a stuck saw) so I called them up and they sent a replacement in less than a week with no questions asked. Great company.

Tree down & split up. Stripped the bark and over with the others.
Notched the logs, planted some rocks.
Used some oak for pegs to draw them together.

Now we have a platform....12ft long x 5ft wide.

I plan to put up some uprights, and then span those with horizontal pieces to support a small roof.
I am not going to seal it with anything. I believe the logs will last a good long time, up off the ground, stripped of bark and with a roof. If it rots away in 10/15 yrs, I will make something new. But, I dont want to spend money on this and I dont like the chemicals ya know.
Oh and yes, I believe he is the happiest dog in the world. Has been that way since birth...this one. And he is happiest up in the woods running about, with his ball.

Finished it up...
Spent $101 on some metal rood with the green to match the house and shed.
Cleaned up the old crapola pile from the side.
Storage is now closer to the house, capacity should be enough to get through a full season. And, being at the back, it is out of range from the snow coming off the roof.

And, yes that is a Gransfors Bruks splitting axe. It is awesome...
I should mention that I had a goal of making this without "store bought" hardware. Well, I used wooden pegs and drilled with a hand auger to fasten most things. I used a few pieces of 1/2 inch rebar for nails and again, I did purchase some metal roof and used roof screws that I had leftover.
