Hey guys and gals,

I am thinking of replacing the oem fuel tank with the LRA long range tank moving it from 25 to a 40 gal capacity. My question is: Is there a skid plate that will fit over(under) the tank to protect it since I am guessing this tank sits a bit lower? From my understanding, the LRA fuel tanks are metal and fairly tough, but the extra protection would be nice. Based on info from multiple sources, the separate aux fuel tank is not the way to go as apparently the aftermarket fuel pump is trash. Be that as it may, I am going for the 40gal replacement. Anyone have experience or knowledge on this? TIA

I've had the 24 gallon auxiliary tank for a few years now and love it, no issues with the pump (although it is slow) and no trail damage to it.

Good to hear. Thanks for sharing LRA recommended a solid state fuel pump so I bought an extra one to throw in the rig.

The aux tank a better call, especially if you have a tire carrier. MY fuel sender went out...It switches the pump, but fuel level not working ; I have had it for 5? years, no skid plate. No marks on it, but I don't wheel like I used to.

AFAIK It just pumps from the aux tank to your OEM one. IE: refills the OEM one at the push of a button.
Its not plumbed into the stock system at all. (At least he LRA/Aftermarket ones)

If I'm understanding where your coming from.

I have the LRA and installed it myself. The sender in the LRA tank is no good. The aux pump/switch/gauge are seperate from the OEM set up.
