I installed Slee's transfer case skid plate. The OEM is pretty cheesy (pic below) and has to be removed to drain the transfer case oil.

Slee's is very stout... I think you could turtle the truck on it with no fear! :D

Took the truck out to a nearby "testing area" (thanks tlcruiserman! ) and proceeded to remove some of the powder coat :grinpimp:

Clearly the low-hanging-bits (with 285's, no lift, side steps) are the side steps/skid plate (breakover) and trailer hitch/spare.

Looks like a rear-bumper (with tire & hilift holder) is next after I receive the SliderSteps & OME Medium.

The truck is phenominal offroad, even basically stock (with 33's)!!!

Isn't it amazing how light that factory plate is? Wouldn't take much of a hit to send it into the T-case.

The Slee plate was one of my first mods. Helps lower the center of gravity :)

lol. I want one now!

I need one of those badly.

I actually think that the Iron Pig is a good skid plate. It covers a lot of the underbody and the metal is thicker from what I believe. Yes you are paying a lot more money but it is worth it. If you want to see the beefyness of mine search for stuck in GA threads and you will find the only one that says pics. I am not trying to put Slee down. Just showing yall some more options. Oh and I beat the crap out of my skid plate and it is going strong!

The Slee plate is without a doubt solid!

However, has anyone ever damaged a t-case with an OE shield?

Or is this more the case of preventative protection?

good question. The OEM Tcase plate is not very stiff but it may well have been designed to fold and protect the Tcase even if squished in a bit. IOW, the tcase would carry the weight and the plate would prevent gashes?

The case is cast aluminum. While it's plenty strong to hold the gears, I sure wouldn't want it to come down on a rock. That cast aluminum can crack if hit hard enough. That skid plate is highly reccomended if you wheel it at all. The stock "skid plate" is cosmetic at best.

The slee TCase skid plate is without a doubt, the biggest bang for the buck when it comes to underbelly protection.

I have put mine through quite a bit of abuse -- it just keep taking the punishment :D

Damn Hants - we should have gotten together - I just put my Slee skid plate on this weekend as well! Talk about beefy. There's no comparison to the OEM.
Mine, however, has no lovin' yet! hehehe Where did you go locally?
OEM had one good nick on it that I probably picked up on Millers.
