Hello all. I am not new to the site or the 80 page in general although on Sunday I picked my first 80 and could'nt be happier so I figured I would take the plunge and take the newbie bashing. I traded another site member (Ryan Ramsey don't know his site name) my 67 fj45 truck for my current project 80 which has been named "TOKYO TANK". I also currently have in my stable a 68 FJ40, 64 FJ45 wagon(long term project lots of floorboard rust), and a 68 El Camino (current garage queen). The new toy is currently sitting on the stock suspension with 33x10.50 BFG A/T's with no further mods other than a red top Optima. First thing to happen will be 2 1/2" springs and a SLEE front bumper. I really like their rear bumper also but the wife says that one will need to wait awhile. I think after the lift and front bumper I will get the ARB's front and rear, then a dual battery and higher voltage alternator.

I just had a new 80 owner newbie question though. Since I know that I will be buying the SLEE bumpers are there different springs rate for the 80's that will help with the weight issues of these bumpers with all of the accessories that are associated with the ie: winch, spare tire, jerry cans, lights? Basically I want to keepp the tire size in the 33-35 range and don't want to buy the springs twice. Any help would be great. Thanks

Welcome!

There are different springs but I'm not so sure about different spring rates; apparently the med and heavy OME springs are the same spring rate but the heavy's are somewhat taller.

Lookee here... https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=44674

Welcome again.

Yes, there are several spring options for the 80 Series. Your best bet is to call Christo or Ben and talk to them about your plans.

What you will find is that there are hundreds of ambiguous posts talking about heavy & medium OME springs. Sometimes "J" will be mentioned in the posts. Many have co-mingled individual spring offerings from OME and created our own hybrids. Some have combined OME with the 2 Slee spring offerings (4" and 6" last I heard.) You will quickly get confused and all the replies will get more confusing because people fail to mention specific spring numbers (i.e. 850/851/860/863/864....) and you'll never figure out what they are talking about.

Good Luck,

Boy is that true. I have read dozens of lift threads and am more confused than ever!

BTW, welcome :flipoff2:

I remember that truck from the 05 Death Valley trip where I met the Ramseys. They have a green 80 now I think?
Small world

Welcome! :flipoff2: Let the mods begin.

Go with the OME 850/863 (2 1/2 inch lift heavies) coils and corresponding shocks. You won't be disappointed.

thanks for the input i will take it all into consideration. yes that is exactly the truck and they are very nice people. my wife brought me lunch today on the job and we went wheelin up in the hills while i ate, what an awesome lunch break. thanks again
