I love build threads, and one of the things i want most to do in my life is to do a proper frame off restoration of a classic land cruiser,
however i am a student witch can barely afford to drive my old landcruiser, to cure some of this itch i have to make do with smaller stuff.

Therefor this project, i want to try out this much hated hipster phenomena, the fixie lookalike: the single speed. I am not doing a fixie because i am to much
of a pussy to ride around town without brakes. If this project is a hit i would probably do a real fixie later on.

I have not received all of my parts yet, so the project is on halt, The basic idea is to make a clean looking bike with no visible wires to
either gears or brakes, and make it as exclusive looking as possible for as little money as possible.

Started out with this sweet "Diamant" i got from the local dump. I am keeping the frame, fork, cank and stem.
Parts under way includes new white deep v wheels with coaster brake, bullhorn handlebars and pedals with clips.

I trimmed a few brackets off with my trusty old angle grinder and some bondo to make it ready for paint. I kept two brackets,
one for the back brake and one for the kickstand in hindsight i regret of not shaving those off too.

I originally wanted a solid burnt sienna brown but i could not find high quality paint in small enough quantity for my frame,
and i ended up with some cheap leftovers from the local paint shop of this really strange metallic color, it looks orange, brown
and red all at the same time. Looks just orange or reddish copper on photos though.

Aiming to use every single drop of clear coat i have, currently on coat number 5

I should show you some pics of the pieces i allready have, but i forgot to take some proper photos so you just have to wait :)

The rest of my bits arrived today:)
The bullhorn bar i ordered did not fit so i went for the stock handlebar, witch worked out awesome

Everything came together with no drama

Bike is done, 5 days after i started, i guess i spent 5-6 uneffective hours in total
My cheap ass tires did not fit my flashy wheels so i had to get some proper tires and tubes, it turned out for the better i think, so i dont worry to much about the ekstra cost.

All in all i spent around 1500kr or about $250, witch is what i consider to be cheap for a unique bike that rides very well. It is perfect to ride around town in with its relatively low gearing.
However the frame is WAY to small for me so i am doing another bike as soon as possible, i learned a lot from this project so the next one will turn out even better!

I like it

Like the color - sometimes strange is better.

Thank you all, i am going to the junkyard this saturday to get parts for one more:)

That just looks dang fun to ride!!

Very nice looking. I assume it has a coaster brake? GM calls that color Sunset Orange Metallic. I like it very much.

You're not too much of a pussy, you're too smart. Build the next one with a fixed rear and a front brake. You'll find that it not too hard to ride it around without using the 'emergency' brake.

yes, it has a coaster brake, and 46/18 gearing so it is very good at slow speeds around town, where i use it. I think i will go for a coaster brake on the next one too, because i really like how it looks with no wires, here in norway we do have lots of hills and i am not that interested in pedaling down all those hills i just pedaled up, it kind of defeats the purpose of a bike. And i am getting to old for that kind of nonsense:)

Build it up with a Sachs or Bendix 2-speed kick back hub. :)
