My wife's sister is broken down in San Diego (She's from Durango, CO) The dealer (I don't know which dealer yet) is telling her she needs an alternator and a battery and that THAT will set her back $2000. The truck (5th Gen 4Runner) is like 2 years old.

Does anyone know objectively if they are taking her for a ride?
That seems pricey.

Does anyone have a standout suggestion for somewhere that can get her in or take a look? (2nd Opinion)

Wow...

I searched partsouq.com and it came back $700+
Then ran it through Cruisin4Parts and it ranged at $350 to $800 around the usual suspects for dealers
but I'm sure that's at least partially due to Black Friday deals going on.

So, it's not as insane as I initially thought.

Everything in SoCal is more expensive. With labor I can see the 2k cost for OEM alternator replacement.

Any dealership doing repairs is gonna charge more than MSRP for parts in San Diego area unfortunately.

The Carlsbad Toyota is a good 20% above MSRP on parts. Absolutely crazy.

Unsure the cost of a new battery, but if the truck is only 2 years old, the battery warranty should be longer than that.

Odd the alternator would fail this quickly as well.
