I want to either paint or rid of the side molding , suggestions ? if I take it off there are holes I am afraid to take it off without being sure I can put it back on ?

You can take them off, paint them, and stick them back on.

the mounting tabs may break when removing them, the plastic anchor pieces have a tendency to break also
there are holes in the body that the anchors insert into and the moulding mounts to
 
We just did all these moldings on my friends 04, pain in the ass. Get ready to break a lot of clips and spend some time with the eraser wheel removing old tape. There are about a dozen holes on each side (doors, fender and quarter).

damn yea I just (keeping on ) did some sanding thinking if I want to go through all that at this point back qauter panel one is off had to go to dealer to get plastic clips they'll be here tursday , being said the tape part not so worried the clips and putting back on is my concern ?

I ordered all new clips from cruiserparts.net. It was about $100 in clips and used 3M double sided tape to glue the moldings back on. We had the moldings painted by the bodyshop across the street. Stripped all the old paint off, the old paint came off without paint stripper... 2,000psi pressure washer and turbo nozzle lol. Paint literally just flew off the moldings which made the prep so much easier.
